Has your child signed up for a local baseball or softball team? If so, he/she is going to need some basic equipment. First and foremost you should purchase a ball. The next item necessary is a youth baseball glove. Many parents make the mistake of buying their young kids large baseball gloves because they think that they will ‘grow into’ them. However, in order for your child to become a good catcher, he/she will need a glove that fits properly so be sure to shop for a baseball glove made for a child’s hand.

Even though your child will have access to softball and baseball bats when playing on a team you should consider buying him or her a bat so that he/she can practice hitting at home. Again, be sure to purchase a child’s bat. It is best to take your child along with you when looking at baseball bats because some are heavier than others, so he/she should choose one that feels comfortable to use. There are many types of bats to choose from ranging from T-ball bats to FastPitch softball bats so choose one that is made for the type of game your child will be playing.
